Takeovers

1.) General HPTO Design Guidelines:

  • Do not reposition the header, body, and tint shadow (below the header)
  • The background should fade out to one solid color towards the footer
    • Outer edge is optional
    • The rule is that the top 40% is graphic, and the bottom 60% is a solid color
    • Specify fade out HEX color in layer or it defaults to white
  • Only background image/secondary elements are allowed in the gutter area
    • Avoid excessive copy
    • Keep any copy or primary imagery within 1280 pixels wide. This is the most common screen resolution. Anything that extends beyond has the potential to be cut off.
  • Responsive Web Design
    • Fixed content body width is 960 pixels and 1200 pixels.
    • Photoshop File Delivery Guideline:
      • Fill the center of the leaderboard background with a solid color fade, OR
      • Use a floating texture at the center of the leaderboard.

2.) General Takeover Guidelines & Specs:

  • Homepage Takeover:
    • Static Takeover, no dynamic principles
    • Can run on the homepage and all inner pages of Break.com and our Property Sites.
    • Header banner height is 65 pixels.
    • File size limit is 150k.
    • Deliverables if client/agency creates:

In-stream / Preroll

1.) Preroll General Items

  • 4:3 or 16:9 Aspect Ratio is accepted
  • We accept 15 or 30 second preroll
  • Both the video and companion ad may be clickable
  • Color depth is 32-bit
  • Key frames every 1 second
  • Frame rate must be at least 15 frames per second

2.) VAST / VPAID Preroll

  • Break and the majority of our Network Sites are VAST 2.0 and VPAID compliant; when delivering, we only target those Network Sites that are compliant
  • We require a minimum of 5 business days to on-board VAST / VPAID tags from new Rich Media Partners; this includes setting up test pages, QA and verifying 1st versus 3rd party discrepancy
  • If a companion ad is required, companion asset must be injected into the VAST / VPAID tag
  • We cannot accept companions separately for these executions
  • If survey/research tags are required, they must be injected into the VAST / VPAID tag

3.) Raw Assets Preroll

  • Break and our Network Sites can also accept Raw Assets for preroll
  • If Raw Assets are to be delivered, we require that the video file be in at least 480p format to minimize pixilation after we transcode/convert
  • If survey/research tags are required, there must be a companion present
  • Video bit rate required to be at least 2Mbps
  • Accepted video formats:
    • .MOV

    • Avoid sending .FLV

4.) Brand Select Preroll

  • All Preroll General Items, and Raw Assets Preroll requirements must be adhered to
  • Brand Select supports 2 – 4 selectable videos
  • Each video must be between 15 – 30 seconds
  • First video will auto-play if the user does not select one after 10 seconds
  • Advertiser logo must be 55 pixels high, and up to 200 pixels wide
  • For each video, we will need:
    • Up to 25 characters for caption purposes
    • 160×100 thumb image

2.) Mobile Banner

  • Static banner that is displayed throughout mobile apps
  • This unit is clickable
  • We prefer that the click lead to a mobile-optimized page
  • Mobile banner must be 320×50
  • Accepted file types are JPG or PNG only
  • Maximum file size: 10k

3.) Mobile Interstitial

  • Static image with integrated, bottom Navigation Bar
  • This unit is displayed in the Photo Galleries section after every 20 images user has viewed
  • Mobile interstitial must be 300×250
  • Accepted file types are JPG or PNG only
  • Maximum file size: 40k
  • Bottom Navigation Bar allows up to four (4) clickable Action Buttons; one (1) Action Button is a minimum requirement
  • Supported Action Button features:
    • Call – upon click, user is prompted to make a phone call to a specific number
    • Info – upon click, user is taken to a website (mobile-optimized page preferred)
    • Install – upon click, user is taken to iTunes (iPhone app) or Android Market (Android app)
    • Locate – upon click, user is taken to either a specific location via Google Maps or searches for what is near the user’s location via Google Maps
    • Play – upon click, a mobile preroll plays
    • Text – upon click, user is prompted to send an SMS to a specific number
  • Though the Action Buttons are clickable, the 300×250 image is not clickable

Flash

  • Break accepts Flash Versions 9 (and newer), and Action Script 3
  • All Flash ads require a backup JPG or GIF
  • All Flash banners require a clickTAG
  • For all Flash banners, click here for the clickTAG command
  • Click here for a useful tool for testing SWF files
  • Break will only be able to pass the click through URL if the above code is used
  • The clickTAG button should be on the topmost layer
  • Click URL cannot be embedded in the SWF
  • All elements with a z-index should be set to below 999997

Polite Ads

  • Polite ads must be broken down into two files:
    • The alternative image (either GIF or JPG), with a 40k maximum
    • The Polite portion of the ad will load after the rest of the Break page finishes loading
